Peter Locke, CFP®, CDFA®

Managing Partner - Head of Financial Planning

Peter is the co-founder of Insight, and as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Peter’s focus is developing, communicating, and executing on tailored strategies for our clients. He not only is a planner for our high net worth clients, he also is the Head of Planning and Client Engagement for the firm and makes sure all planning efforts meet the standard of the CFP Board. He graduated with a double major in Business Management and Communication Studies at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. Answering the call of the west, he then drove out to Colorado with his beloved rescue dog, Charlie, and began working to further his career in financial planning by attending evening courses at the University of Colorado Boulder in order to pursue and obtain his CFP®.  Since 2011, Peter has spent time advising clients on a wide range of financial matters while working for firms such as Scottrade and TD Ameritrade. Peter just purchased a home in Boulder with his wife Kim Locke and they’re looking forward to growing their family soon. Peter enjoys all professional sports and doing anything outside so Colorado has been the perfect home for him since moving from the beautiful state of Virginia.

Kevin T. Taylor, CIMA®, AIF®,

Managing Partner - Head of Business Operations and Investments

Kevin is a passionate husband and father. Like most Coloradans, he is energetic about the outdoors and loves hiking the front range, camping, and skiing. He could easily be found jeeping the backcountry or taking the kids to mountain rental for the weekend with his wife Susan. When at work, however, he oversees InSight’s business development efforts and client acquisition. He was raised in Longmont, Colorado went to Longmont High School, and spent most of his youth performing on stage, or competing in speech and debate. He earned his Bachelors in Political Science and International Relations from Carroll College in 2003. He spent the following decade assisting Fortune 500 insurance companies with their go-to-market and client engagement infrastructure. Then, in 2014 began working as a Financial Advisor for a Registered Investment Advisor and have been managing clients and their money ever since. He earned his Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) in 2019, after recognizing the long-term value and success inherent in documenting the Fiduciary process and coaching clients on their responsibilities when managing investments on behalf of others. As a result, Kevin specializes in corporate plan development, fiduciary process management, and client engagement for our corporate retirement plans. He earned his CIMA® designation in 2021 after studying with the Yale School of Management. Disciplined in crafting and understanding risk, reward, and investment behavior Kevin is a consummate investment professional thrilled by the idea of capital markets and their potential. His quotes and ideas have been featured in U.S. News and World Report, Yahoo! Finance, Colorado Parenting, and the Denver Post. Kevin decided to start InSight with his co-founder after spending several years helping clients uncover where returns really came from in their portfolio, and what they can focus on to move the needle.

Kate Palone

Operations Manager

Kate brings a diverse background which uniquely positions her to be our Operations Manager. She holds dual Bachelor's degrees in Nursing and Counseling, a testament to her commitment to both the physical and emotional well-being of individuals. Kate has experience in startup operations and client success. She brings a holistic approach to her work, understanding that successful operations are not solely about numbers and efficiency but also about the people at the core of any organization. Her interpersonal skills go hand in hand with her dedication to operational efficiency. By streamlining processes and finding innovative solutions, she ensures that the organization can focus more on the human-centric side of financial planning. Beyond her professional life, Kate enjoys being active with her two pups, is a coffee enthusiast, and explores new restaurants with her wife, Marina.

Carly Powers

Financial Planner

Carly is our dedicated Financial Planner, who has a passion for helping clients achieve their goals. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University, with concentrations in Personal Financial Planning, History, and Human Sciences, and began her career in finance at Charles Schwab shortly after graduation. This unique blend of knowledge from various fields of study has allowed her to develop a cohesive and expansive understanding of the more imperceptible connections between the relationship we have with our financials. Carly is inspired by the idea that financial freedom can be attainable through hard work, transparent communication, and collaboration. This idea motivated Carly to begin her pursuit of the CFP® licensure, and Master’s degree in Financial Planning. Carly has a love for continuous education and is excited to broaden her expertise in the financial planning industry. She is motivated by learning, being of service to her community, and building new relationships. Outside of work, Carly is passionate about history, travel, and family. She is an avid rock climber and skier and enjoys the great state of Colorado with her beloved pup, Captain. Carly combines professional acumen with a zest for living life fully, making her an energetic, compassionate, and trusted advisor for clients seeking financial success.

Michelle PatzaInvestment Planning and Advice

Michelle Patza

Administrative Services Manager

Michelle Patza began her career in the financial services industry in 1999 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. While working at firms such as Wells Fargo Funds and TD Ameritrade, Michelle has learned to provide excellent client service and received several awards for outstanding performance. At InSight, Michelle will utilize her financial services skill set by supporting the general office operations. Michelle’s responsibilities include providing administrative support for new accounts, assisting with client onboarding, and serving as a client liaison. Michelle is a Wisconsin native and a former student-athlete. She played four years of volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school, and then four years of collegiate fast-pitch softball. In 2018, Michelle moved out west with her husband Jeff. Together they love hiking and biking, watching professional and college sports, and dining out at independently-owned restaurants.

Professional Designations

CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct reflects the commitment that all CFP® professionals make to high standards of competency and ethics. CFP Board’s Code and Standards benefits and protects the public and provides standards for delivering financial planning and advances financial planning as a distinct and valuable profession. Compliance with the Code and Standards is a requirement of CFP® certification that is critical to the integrity of the CFP® marks. Violations of the Code and Standards may subject a CFP® professional to discipline.

The CIMA® certification is uniquely designed to provide a useful and relevant balance of theory and practical knowledge. It goes well beyond the fundamentals, with deep dives into advanced portfolio management, portfolio construction, and risk management techniques. The CIMA® program provides a systematic process advisors and consultants can use to put their clients’ strategies into action. CIMA® certification is the peak international, technical portfolio construction, and investment management program. The CIMA Core of Body of Knowledge includes five knowledge domains, Fundamentals, Investments, Portfolio Theory and Behavioral Finance, Risk and Return, and Portfolio Construction and Consulting Process.

A CDFA® professional is a financial professional skilled at analyzing data and providing expertise on the financial issues of divorce. The role of the CDFA® professional is to assist the client and his or her attorney to understand how the decisions he or she makes today will impact the client’s financial future. A CDFA® can take on many roles in the divorce process:

Financial Expertise and Strategy

CDFA® professionals provide the client and attorney with data analysis that shows the financial effect of any given settlement. They become part of the divorce team and provide support on financial issues such as:

  • Understanding the short-term and long-term effects of dividing property.
  • Analyzing pensions and retirement plans.
  • Determining if the client can afford the marital home, and if not, what he or she can afford.
  • Recognizing the tax consequences of different settlement proposals.

Data Collection and Analysis

Much of a CDFA® professional’s role is to collect the client’s financial data and perform analysis. CDFAs can help manage clients’ expectations of their financial future by presenting different scenarios and talking through the client’s budget and expenses. CDFAs are trained to:

  • Collect financial and expense data.
  • Help clients identify their future financial goals.
  • Develop a budget.
  • Set retirement objectives.
  • Determine how much risk they are willing to take with their investments.
  • Identify what kind of lifestyle they want.

Fi360 defines an investment fiduciary as someone who is providing investment advice or managing the assets of another person and stands in a special relationship of trust, confidence, and/or legal responsibility. Investment fiduciaries can be divided generally into three groups: Investment Stewards, Investment Advisors, and Investment Managers. An Investment Steward is a person who has the legal responsibility for managing investment decisions, including plan sponsors, trustees, and investment committee members. An Investment Advisor is a professional who is responsible for providing investment advice and/or managing investment decisions.  Investment Advisors include wealth managers, financial advisors, trust officers, financial consultants, investment consultants, financial planners, and fiduciary advisers. An Investment Manager is a professional who has the discretion to select specific securities for separate accounts, mutual and exchange-traded funds, commingled trusts, and unit trusts.

Life and health insurance exam encompasses the fundamentals of the various types of life insurance products, such as whole life, term life, universal life, and annuities, as well as health insurance offerings such as PPOs, HMOs, and Major Medical. You’ll need to understand all the policy components, such as riders, exclusions, amendments, and provisions, and how they apply to real-world scenarios.

Most states also include questions regarding state-specific insurance regulations as well as the ethics of selling insurance products to ensure that agents meet the clients’ needs.
