X-axis (horizontal): This shows the timeline from the last decade.
The blue line illustrates the monthly changes in these “sticky prices” compared to a year ago.
When the blue line is above the O, inflation is up YoY; when it is below it is down YoY

Money Supply - Dollar Devaluation
What Is This Chart Showing?
Y-axis (vertical): Shows the percent change in M2 money supply—how much the total amount of money in the economy grew or shrank each quarter.
X-axis (horizontal): Covers time from the 1980s to today.
The blue line tracks monthly changes in M2, which includes cash, checking deposits, and savings accounts.
Shaded gray bars indicate U.S. recessions.
“Too much money chasing too few goods” is a classic recipe for inflation. When M2 rises quickly, more money floods the economy, increasing demand—this can push prices up if supply doesn’t keep pace.
