Social Security Statements provide an estimate of how much you will receive from Social Security when you retire or if you become disabled, and how much your family members might be eligible for if you pass. Having a clear understanding of your benefits can help you recognize your other income needs during retirement.
If your retirement plan includes using Social Security, it’s important to review your information on the Social Security website.
- Go to ssa.gov
- Click “Sign In”
- Click “Create an account”
- Download or screenshot your Social Security statement. Upload the statement into the secure Vault on your client portal, eMoney. This enables InSight to update your retirement plan.
- Bonus Step: You can also utilize the Social Security calculator to estimate your benefits.
What is a Social Security Statement and where do I find mine?
Three main points to find on your statement:
Retirement Benefits: This is where you can find out your full retirement age (FRA). This is the age at which you’re eligible to receive full and unreduced benefits.
Work Credits: Your eligibility status based on your earnings and taxes paid to Social Security. You must earn at least 40 work credits to be eligible for benefits. These are earned when you work and pay Social Security taxes.
Earnings Record: Your progress toward your Social Security benefits. Please look over your statement for any discrepancies.
